Maketto's services

Finding a supplier and negotiating

We look for sellers among shops, wholesalers, dealers and manufacturers. We negotiate in Japanese on Maketto's behalf: quantity, price, shipment dates and whether repeat orders are possible.

We ask for quotes on the quantity you need. Price and terms of sale depend on the supplier. Once the search is done, we'll tell you what offers came back.

If a meeting in person is needed, we can attend on our own or together with you, as arranged with the supplier. We'll also come with you to an industry trade fair and handle the talks in Japanese.

Buying the goods

We buy in Maketto's name and arrange delivery to the warehouse in Toyama. You top up your balance to fund the purchase, and we pay the seller from it.

What this gives you: sellers who won't ship abroad will ship to us. For them it is an ordinary domestic sale to a Japanese company.

We buy in shops, on wholesale platforms and auctions, and from suppliers direct. Before buying we check the seller's terms and any restrictions on exporting the goods from Japan.

If the seller only delivers within Japan, we'll arrange delivery to the Maketto warehouse. We check their terms on export and resale abroad separately.

Receiving and preparing the consignment

At the Toyama warehouse we take in purchases from different sellers and check what has arrived against the order. On request we send you a photo and video report. We consolidate the purchases into one consignment and prepare it for shipping.

What this gives you: we apply Chestny Znak codes, Russia's compulsory product marking, at the warehouse before the goods leave Japan. Goods subject to marking cannot be imported into Russia without it, and once the consignment has crossed the border it is too late to apply it.

We pack the goods for transport. Where marking is required, we agree in advance what is needed and whether we can apply it at the warehouse.

Shipping and paperwork

We draw up the invoice and the export documents and ship the consignment by sea to Vladivostok. We'll help you find a customs broker in Russia.

We arrange customs clearance through a partner broker, or prepare the documents for your own broker. Before the purchase we agree with you and the broker which documents are needed and how they will be prepared. Customs clearance and onward delivery costs are worked out for the specific goods and consignment.

From a single pallet to a full container

We ship single pallets and full container loads. We consolidate purchases from different suppliers, prepare the cargo for transport and choose the shipping format that suits your consignment.

What makes up the cost

The quote shows the price of the goods from the supplier's offer. Maketto's fee and the costs of preparing, shipping and clearing the consignment are listed separately.

We prepare a provisional quote before buying. The shipping cost is confirmed once the goods are in and we know the weight and volume of the finished consignment.

Goods
The seller's price for the quantity you need. We'll ask for a quote and go through the terms of purchase.
Maketto's fee
Finding the supplier, negotiating and buying. The amount depends on how much of the work you hand to us.
Preparing the consignment in Japan
Taking the goods in and itemising them, packing, delivery to the port and export documents. Marking at the Toyama warehouse where it is required. The quote sets out which jobs are needed and what each one costs.
International freight
Sea freight from Japan to Vladivostok. The cost depends on the weight and volume of the consignment.
Customs clearance in Russia
Customs charges and the broker's fee. We work out the amounts for the specific goods and consignment, and agree with you and the broker how they are paid.

Transport from Vladivostok to your address or a collection point.

How an order works

A wooden table with catalogues: printed product tables and photographs of towels, a rolled towel, a small white box, a calculator, a notepad with a pen and a green folder

Before the purchase

  1. You send the product name or a link, the rough quantity and the delivery city. If you have already chosen a supplier, tell us who.

  2. We check the product specification and the shipping terms. If there is no supplier yet, we find one and ask for quotes on the quantity you need.

  3. You get the quote: the price of the goods, Maketto's fee and the costs for the consignment. We flag which amounts are provisional and agree the terms of purchase.

Buying and shipping

  1. Once the purchase is agreed, you top up your balance. We pay the seller from those funds.

  2. We take the goods in and check them against the order. On request we send you a photo and video report. Then we prepare the consignment for shipping.

  3. We agree the shipment, hand the cargo over to the carrier and give you the documents for the consignment.

A Japanese company with a warehouse in Toyama

Your contract is with Maketto LLC, registered in Japan. We buy from Japanese sellers in its name. Your purchase history is kept in your account.

Purchases from different sellers arrive at the Toyama warehouse. Here we consolidate them into consignments and prepare the packing and the documents for shipping.

The terms we work on

Maketto is the exporter: the consignment leaves Japan in our name. There are two ways to clear it through Russian customs, and the choice is yours.

We find a broker to suit your case and prepare the documents for them.

Import in your company's name

The broker files the declaration in your company's name. You are the importer of record: currency control, duty and VAT sit with you.

Import in another company's name, handover in Russia

Clearance is not in your name: another company is the importer, files the declaration and pays the duty and VAT. You take delivery inside Russia, already cleared, with no foreign-trade formalities or currency control on your side.

We'll work out which route suits you when we quote your consignment.

Questions about wholesale buying

It depends on what needs doing: buying from a seller you have chosen, finding a supplier, or running several purchases. Once we have gone through your request, we'll quote our fee separately from the goods and the other costs.
