What Mercari is
Mercari (メルカリ) is Japan's largest flea market. Private people sell there, clearing out wardrobes, cupboards and collections. That is why things long gone from the shops turn up here: vintage clothing, old lenses, nineties consoles, trading cards, vinyl, figures.
One thing sets Mercari apart from a shop: every listing is a single item. It is not “in stock” — there is one of it, and it can sell within minutes. So we pull the listings live and check once more, right before payment, that the item is still there.
How to order through Maketto
- 1Find a listing in the Mercari catalog — through the collections or search. You can also paste a jp.mercari.com link into the search box.
- 2Look through all the photos and the description: condition, size, what is included. We translate the description.
- 3Place the order and pay — before the invoice we check that the listing is still on sale.
- 4We buy the listing from the seller and it travels to our warehouse in Japan.
- 5We ship the parcel to you. Several purchases can be packed together.
What the price includes
The price on the card is the listing price in yen, set by the seller. Most listings already include domestic shipping in Japan; when the buyer pays it, the card says so. The service fee and international shipping are calculated separately at checkout.
Good to know
- Maketto is not Mercari. We buy the listing from the Japanese seller on your order.
- There is one of each item. While you think it over, another buyer may take it — that is normal on a flea market.
- Every listing is a separate order: the sellers are different and each ships to our warehouse on its own.
- Condition and completeness are described by the seller. Private sellers usually accept no returns or exchanges.
- Prices are in yen. The fee and international shipping are calculated at checkout, once the parcel is weighed at the warehouse.
- Shipping inside Japan is not always visible. With 送料込み it is already in the lot price; with 着払い the buyer pays it, and nobody can name the exact amount in advance — the Japanese courier works it out from size and distance. In our experience ¥700–1,500, more for bulky items; we add it to your invoice once the lot arrives.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the official Mercari?
No. Maketto is a proxy-buying and shipping service from Japan. We buy the listing from the Japanese seller on your order and deliver it to you.
What if someone buys the item first?
We re-check the listing right before the invoice. If it has already sold, the order goes no further and the money for it returns to your balance.
How do I judge the condition?
Condition and flaws are described by the seller — read the description and look at every photo on the card, they are shown full size. If anything is still unclear, message us before you pay.
Can I take several listings at once?
Yes, but each listing becomes its own order: the sellers differ and they ship separately. At our warehouse in Japan the purchases can be packed into one parcel.
How much is shipping?
International shipping is calculated at checkout — it depends on weight and destination, and the weight is known once the parcel is packed at the warehouse. Domestic shipping in Japan is included in the seller's price for most listings. Sellers usually include domestic shipping in the price (the 送料込み label). With 着払い, though, delivery to our warehouse is paid by the buyer and the marketplace does not show the amount up front — we add it to your invoice once the lot arrives.
Do you haggle with the seller?
No, we do not negotiate — we buy at the price shown on the listing.
