What Yahoo Auctions is and what people buy there

Yahoo Auctions is Japan's largest auction platform, operated by LY Corporation — the company behind Yahoo! Japan and LINE. Tens of millions of lots are live at any moment. Since January 2025 overseas buyers see it branded as JDirectItems Auction, but that's only a name change: the site, lots, sellers and bidding rules are the same.

People come here for what regular stores don't carry: discontinued figures and anime goods, vintage clothing and gear, trading cards, used and JDM car parts, cameras, instruments and watches. Many lots are one-of-a-kind and cheaper than professional resellers charge.

How to buy on Yahoo Auctions with Maketto

Honest about price

The lot price and our fee (10%, minimum ¥1,000 — covering the whole service: purchase, warehousing, inspection, seller communication and shipping arrangement) are shown upfront. International shipping depends on weight and destination — estimate it on the calculator on the homepage; the exact weight is known once the lot reaches our warehouse. Combine several purchases into one parcel to usually pay less for shipping.

Yahoo flea market items in search

Not everything in the Yahoo Auctions results comes from an auction. Yahoo mixes in listings from its own flea market — PayPay Flea Market (PayPayフリマ), run by the same operator. Yahoo has since renamed it Yahoo!フリマ, so both names are in circulation: PayPay Flea Market and Yahoo Flea Market. These are private sellers' listings, and they land in the same search as auction lots.

The difference from a lot is that there is no bidding: the price is fixed and the item is bought outright. There is only one of each, so they go quickly. Domestic shipping within Japan is always included in the price by the seller. On our site these items carry a "Yahoo Flea Market" label and show no auction countdown. You order them like any other product — add to cart, and our manager buys it out. The fee is the same as everywhere: 10%, minimum ¥1,000 per order.

Auction specifics: bidding, sniping, seller rating

Proxy (maximum) bid: you set a ceiling; the system raises your bid one step above rivals, never past your max. If you win, you pay one step over the next-highest bid.
Auto-extension vs sniping: a bid in the final 5 minutes extends the auction by another 5 minutes. Last-second sniping usually fails here — a sensible maximum matters more.
Buy Now: many lots can be taken instantly at a fixed price, without bidding.
Seller rating: each profile shows positive/negative feedback — more deals and little negative feedback means safer. Used condition follows a Japanese scale; always check photos.
Sales are final: private sellers don't accept "changed my mind" returns — study the listing before bidding.

Can I bid on Yahoo Auctions without a Japanese account?

Not directly — the site is Japanese, and payment and shipping are domestic. With Maketto you don't need one: you place bids yourself from your account and watch the auction live, and the system relays them instantly through our Japanese account.

Are JDirectItems and Yahoo Auctions the same?

Yes. JDirectItems Auction is the overseas name of the same platform since 2025; auctions.yahoo.co.jp links still work.

What happens to my money if I lose a bid?

Nothing is lost: the amount is reserved during bidding and returned to your balance if you don't win.

How can I pay?

You pay on the site: by card through Stripe or from your Maketto balance. It is never a transfer to a personal account — a payment provider handles it, and your card details never reach us or the manager. Your bank may ask you to confirm the payment with 3-D Secure.
