GU from Japan — the same company as UNIQLO, lower prices

The Japanese GU catalog in your language. The brand's own promise is the freedom to reinvent yourself: no rules, so you can pick a colour or a shape you would not have picked before. GU is the younger brother of UNIQLO, and its clothes cost less. We buy them in the Japanese store and ship them to you from our warehouse.

More about GU and how to order

What GU is

GU is a Japanese clothing store and the younger brand of Fast Retailing — the company that owns UNIQLO. GU puts its idea briefly: the freedom to reinvent yourself. Hence the current shapes and colours at a price where trying something new costs little, while UNIQLO next to it stays with plain basics.

In Japan GU is a big chain, but its clothes don't ship to you on their own. With Maketto the GU catalog is in your language, and we do the buying in Japan for you.

How to order through Maketto

  1. 1Find an item in the GU catalog — by section or via search.
  2. 2Pick a colour and size and add the item to your cart.
  3. 3Place the order and pay — we buy the item in Japan.
  4. 4The item arrives at our warehouse in Japan; you can combine it with other purchases if you like.
  5. 5We ship the parcel to you and calculate the international delivery.

What the price includes

The price on the card is the item's cost in Japan, in yen. The service fee and international shipping are calculated separately at checkout. Delivery within Japan to our warehouse is confirmed later.

Good to know

  • Maketto is not a GU store — we buy the item from the Japanese GU on your behalf. GU is one of our stores, alongside UNIQLO, Rakuten and Mercari.
  • GU and UNIQLO items go as separate orders even if you add them to the same cart: they are two different stores. At the warehouse they still go into one parcel.
  • Sizes are Japanese and run smaller than European ones. Check the measurements on the item card.
  • Stock is refreshed about once an hour, so an item may occasionally still show up after it is gone. The colour and size are confirmed at checkout.
  • Prices on the cards are in yen — they are set by the Japanese GU.

Frequently asked questions

How is GU different from UNIQLO?

One company, two characters. GU is cheaper and bolder in cut, and it is about the freedom to try: another colour, another shape. UNIQLO sticks to plain basics and its own fabrics.

Is this the official GU store?

No. Maketto is a Japanese buying and shipping service. We buy the item from the Japanese GU on your behalf and ship it from our own warehouse.

Why is the price in yen?

The purchase happens in Japan, so the card shows the Japanese price. The order total, with the fee, is shown at checkout.

How do I pick a size?

Each card has a colour and size selector and the item measurements. Japanese sizes run smaller, so go by centimetres rather than by the letter.

What if the item is out of stock?

Stock is refreshed hourly and confirmed at checkout. If your colour or size is gone, we tell you and refund that item.

Can I order GU and UNIQLO together?

Yes. They become two separate orders, one per store, but at our warehouse the items go into a single parcel, so international shipping is paid once.

How do I pay?

By card or from your Maketto balance. The payment is handled by a payment provider, so your card number is never shared with us; your bank may add a 3-D Secure step.
